VARISIAN DRESS AND FAMILY SCARVES
Varisians favor scarves of all sizes and colors, but some
hold special significance. Most notable is the family
scarf, or kapenia. Children receive their kapenia upon
maturity; to own one is to be an adult. These long, heavy
scarves display elegant and complicated embroidery that
is incomprehensible to most outsiders. To Varisians,
though, the scarves show family trees. By tracing the
loops and whorls of a scarf, one can trace a person’s
history, back through her mother and father, her siblings,
grandparents and great-grandparents, as far back as the
family has knowledge.
Varisians wear their kapenia only on special occasions,
such as weddings or funerals. Most choose to be buried with
their kapenia, though some bequeath them to loved ones. It
is extraordinarily rare for a Varisian to bequeath her kapenia
to a non-Varisian, or even a Varisian not of her clan.
Varisians wear sensible but colorful clothes during the
workday. When performing, they dress in fancy gowns
and heavily embroidered vests and trousers and wear
excessive amounts of jewelry.
Varisians believe that certain colors carry specific
powers and choose their outfits to attract the right type
of energy. Pink is the color of love, kindness, and courage.
Red represents lust, long life, and inner strength. Orange
is the color of happiness and resourcefulness, and
adventuring Varisians often wear a touch of orange on
their travels. Green enhances wisdom and self-control.
Turquoise represents physical strength and nonverbal
communication, and most dancing costumes feature
it. Blue is the color of health, youth, and beauty. Violet
enhances intuition and divine inspiration, so most
fortunetellers and seers wear violet scarves.
Varisians love jewelry and favor gems over coins. Most
pragmatically believe that worn wealth is harder to steal than
wealth hidden out of sight in a tent or locked up in a box.

Curse of the Crimson Throne Backstory
Korvosa, the Jewel of Varisia, has long sparkled on Varisia’s southern shore. Established 300 years ago by Cheliax at the height of that empire’s expansion, the city now commands its own destiny. A line of Korvosan kings and queens emerged to rule the city, establishing an infamous seat power—the Crimson Throne. Rulers have sat upon the Crimson Throne for more than a century, and the city has flourished. Yet the monarchy always seems on the brink of disaster. The Crimson Throne is not a prize to be won—it is a curse. No monarch of Korvosa has died of old age, and none have produced an heir while ruling. Even though King Eodred II controls Korvosa more fully than any previous monarch, that control remains tenuous, and many secretly count the days until their latest king falls to what they call the Curse of the Crimson Throne.
The city of Korvosa began 300 years ago, in 4407 ar, when the Empire of Cheliax expanded north into Varisia. Here, the Chelaxians found a large tribe of Shoanti barbarians dwelling around an immense pyramid on the shores of a deep bay—a perfect site for a city. Much bloodshed eventually left the Shoanti defeated, driven back to the harsh Cinderlands, and the city that grew on the site was named after the field marshal who led his army to victory there. Yet even as Korvosa flourished and grew, surviving even the collapse of the Chelish empire, few bothered to ask why the Shoanti had dwelt here. None of Korvosa’s citizens, from beggar to king, realized that the Shoanti were guardians, that deep inside the pyramid destined to become Castle Korvosa hid a great and terrible evil: the Fangs of Kazavon, relics of one of Golarion’s most powerful and deadly dragons. For the past 300 years, Korvosa has grown, unaware that the city’s foundation rests on a history of evil and cruelty. Today, Korvosa’s reigning King Eodred Arabasti II is feared by all the right people. His rule is steady, even if his insatiate appetites drain the city’s coffers. His ability to navigate the rocks and shoals of Chelish diplomacy earned the city favorable trade agreements with the Old Empire, but rumors persisted of the king’s womanizing habits and his spendthrift ways. Despite his fondness for a soft touch, he has to date produced no heir to the throne, the latest in a line of rulers affected by the Curse of the Crimson Throne. Edicts proclaim Eodred II the Saffron King, likening his reign to one of abundance, in which honey and spice flood the markets. The city’s downtrodden have another name for Eodred, though—the Stirge King, a man whose squandering ways are slowly bleeding his city dry. Whispers of Eodred II’s taste for scandalously young companionship have dogged the king throughout his rule, and thus when he finally wed, it was no surprise that his bride was barely a third of his age. Queen Ileosa was a woman of breathtaking beauty, with red hair like the sunset, chaste alabaster skin, and features so fetching many claimed her mother must have been a nymph queen, as surely no mortal woman could give birth to a beauty such as she. Most of Korvosa’s nobles worry of the dangers of placing a trophy wife within hands’ reach of the Crimson Throne, but Ileosa’s interest in the city seemed secondary to the life of luxury—and with the more-than-competent Seneschal Neolandus Kalepopolis guarding Castle Korvosa’s interests, these noble families feel they have little to worry about.
The queen was born Ileosa Arvanxi to one of Cheliax’s more successful noble families. When she came of age, most expected her to marry into a more powerful Chelish line, yet she scandalized her family by abandoning Cheliax and sailing to the city of Korvosa. For Ileosa was nothing if not ambitious—she didn’t see herself as the wife of an important Chelish dignitary or noble, but as a queen. She knew much of Eodred II’s tastes and desires before she arrived, so that when she presented herself to him, he fell in love immediately. The two were wed after a scandalously short courtship, and, perhaps the most shocking move of all, Eodred turned out his entire harem in favor of his new queen. Barely 17 years old when she took Eodred II’s side in 4704 ar, Queen Ileosa has managed a minor miracle in the past 4 years—she’s single-handedly shifted the dislike and disapproval away from King Eodred to herself with her open distaste for Korvosa (a city she’s been heard to call “a backwater colonial village” more than once).
About 2 months ago Eodred was struck with an illness and every physician that was summoned could do nothing to alleviate his condition or stop his health deteriorating. As this Adventure Path begins, Eodred still lives, but the illness has wreaked havoc on his health. He has spent the last several weeks in seclusion in Castle Korvosa, and despite the work of his staff, rumors of his ill health are spreading. Queen Ileosa has called for unity in Korvosa and is attempting to quell any talks of rebellion whilst promoting herself as a competent ruler in his stead.

Kyra Starling Backstory
Kyra Starling
- I took the name Kairi so people don't associate me with the noble daughter who just moved in.
- Sent away from the city due to a high up noble boy named Percival laughing at my attempts to dance at a ball and then mocking me in front of all the other guests. So I punched him in the face. Other things too but of a similar ilk. The other nobles there treated me with disdain due to me not being at all ladylike as they think a noble daughter should be.
- Parents are Sylas and Jane Starling who are a well off noble family who own the land of Highever and want to continue rising in the world. Before Sylas' hard work they were a fairly unknown family who have only recently come into the higher circles of the capital. Jane is meek and mild who tends to the house and wishes her daughter wasn't so different. Sylas is a bold forceful man who is very single minded. He is fair and honest but also uncompromising and set in his own ways. The only person he listened too was Vox. One day I hope to have proved myself so he will accept and respect me as he did Vox.
- Took up blacksmithing in order to learn something I felt to actually be a useful skill unlike anything I was taught in the capital by my mother. The master smith there named Duncan Magnusson took me on out of curiosity as he wasn't expecting a young girl to actually commit to blacksmithing. But after a while he saw I was serious and now he lets me help out whenever I'm around. As payment he let me keep the first good sword I ever made which I have named Sting. Duncan is a fairly long in the tooth dwarf but he's "not retiring any time soon thank you very much". He spends almost all of his time in the forge and looking for adamantine to finally make the perfect sword. His grumpy exterior belies a warm and kind personality underneath.
- My big brother Vox was well respected by my parents due to excelling in all things martial. I want nothing more than to follow in his footsteps and become a samurai too despite my parents forbidding it because I'm a girl. Vox secretly taught me a few things after much pestering resulting in me being surprisingly strong for my size but also very moral. After Vox left with a group of adventurers to help others and make a name for himself was when I really started rebelling against life in the capital. This was two years ago and I look forward to the day where I can join him.
- Having been forced to sit through a lot of political and business talk between families I've grasped the intricacies of charm and diplomacy and have learnt to use it to my advantage. However this has left me with a rather strong preference for straight talking and a tendency to speak without thinking.
- Desperate to prove myself and thoroughly bored of civilian life, I will jump at any opportunity for adventure and tend to idolise those who have tales to tell of their own adventures. I spend most of my free time reading stories of such adventures so I'm generally found in the bookshop. The owner is the only person who I've told my true identity too and she has sworn to keep it secret. Her name is Lucy Anne and she's a kind middle-aged half elf whom I view as somewhat of a mother figure. She lets me stay there and read providing I help her out around the shop when she needs it. I know she doesn't need any help as does she but she knows I need to feel useful so we both keep quiet about it.

Katawa Shoujo Alpha Walkthrough
First of all this is how you get hold of the Katawa Shoujo alpha:
Because I couldn't find a walkthrough for the alpha I decided to make my own. This is a work in progress as I'll have to emotionally prepare myself for the bad endings. Plus time constraints, other games, yada yada. I will do my best to keep this up to date with the most recent versions of the alpha, but from what I can gather the choices won't change, it's only artwork and music they're adding by this stage. Except maybe Hanako's. Finally this is for the alpha not the full game which can be downloaded here: http://www.katawa-shoujo.com/. The walkthrough for that can be found by a quick google or just looking on gamefaqs.com or some other site like that.
Lilly:
- Yeah, of course.
- Ask about the library.
- She has a point. Attack aggressively!
- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.
- She was cute.
- Go talk with Hanako.
- Yes.
- Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack...
- Take it easy.
- Sorry, I'm not in very good condition.
- I'll go for a walk into town.
- Tell the truth.
Right this one is an important one. In the original alpha this was the original path to Hanako's good ending where you pick "I'll take good care of her." However if you use this route to get Hanako's good ending you miss quite a few new scenes with Hanako so I wouldn't recommend doing that. In fact by doing Hanako's route you get to a very similar version of this scene with the same question but it automatically picks "I'll take good care of her" for you. Instead pick the following to continue along Lilly's good route. If you pick "I'll take good care of her" it actually messes the game up at the moment, so don't do that.
- You're the one that's injured here.
- Kiss her.
Hanako:
- Yeah, of course.
- Ask about the library.
- She has a point. Attack aggressively!
- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.
- She was cute.
- Go talk with Hanako.
- Yes.
- Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack...
- Take it easy.
- Sorry, I'm not in very good condition.
- Go to the library.
- What do you think, Hanako?
Then comes the editor's note which allows you to simply pick between the true/good ending and the bad ones. Pick the good one. For your sake.
Shizune:
- Yeah, of course.
- Ask about Shizune's deafness.
- She has a point. Attack aggressively!
- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.
- She was cute.
- Wait for Shizune and Misha to come to a decision.
- Yes.
- Don't drag me into this! I've done my part!
- Take it easy.
- Try to dodge the subject.
- Try to kiss Shizune.
- I'll Confess to Shizune.
- Don't do it.
- I picked Blue. (This only affects what colour yukata she wears for Tanabata.)
- Leave the shop.
- Wish for good luck with relationships.
- No. (Work in progress).
- You look cute when you're mad.
- Well you weigh them three times...
- No.
- You can be happy with what you have.
- Shizune.
- I need to check up on her.
Rin:
- Yeah, of course.
- I think I got everything I need to know.
- She has a point. Attack aggressively!
- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.
- She was cute.
- Read my book.
- Yes.
- Don't drag me into this! I've done my part!
- Take it easy.
- Sorry, I'm not in really good condition.
- I'm interested in the art club.
Emi:
Disclaimer: This path is currently not finished, you can play it up to one of the final scenes at Emi's house where you can either go after her or talk to her mom. After that bad things happen so if you want the ending go play it in the finished game. All up to that point is very good though so it is worthwhile if you don't mind switching for the ending.

- Go for it.
- Press.
- Talk to Emi's Mom.
- Go on to steam groups.
- Find Katawa Shoujo Prealpha Repair
- The download is in the announcements as stated, the version will of course change as time goes on becoming better and more updated but is perfectly playable at time of writing.
- To get the most up to date but not neccessarily stable version you can go here: https://github.com/stanriders/ksalpha-repair
